Will the U.S. Keep its EMV Promise?
Atlanta, Ga., (February 27, 2014) – Recent high-profile security breaches at U.S.-based retailers affecting millions of consumer credit cards put a renewed focus on the EuroPay MasterCard, Visa (EMV) standard and technologies needed to secure the complex mix of mobile, online and in-store transactions. While the EMV smartcard standard is widely adopted in Europe and Asia, speakers at the CARTES America 2014 conference this May will be asking the tough question, “Will the U.S. Keep its EMV Promise?”
Taking place in Las Vegas, Nev., May 13-15, CARTES America 2014, a secure payment and identification conference, will devote two tracks over two days specifically to EMV as U.S. banks and retailers move toward a 2015 mandate for wide-scale adoption of new smartcard-based, “chip and pin” payment solutions. The three-day conference features 150 exhibitors and sponsors, 50 education programs and six keynote sessions, including a two-day schedule dedicated to discussions on the status of EMV deployment, best practices and technologies. EMV sessions will focus on:
- EMV migration pain points and how to ease the transition;
- Educating retailers and consumers about the benefits of EMV;
- Deployment models from Canada and Europe;
- EMV through the eyes of the consumer;
- Personalizing millions of new EMV cards;
- Side-by-side comparisons of the value and EMV ecosystems in the U.S., Canada and Mexico; and
- Lowering the total cost of ownership for EMV deployments.
“EMV has been an important privacy and secure payment topic for several years,” said Isabelle Alfano, exhibition director of CARTES America, “but in the next 12-18 months the U.S. will make a dramatic shift from discussion to deployment as merchants and consumers interact in new and more secure ways. CARTES America is where the industry can find the strategies and tools to make that transition.”
